More than 400,000 umbrellas sold in Costco big box retailer have been recalled due to a malfunction that can cause them to burst into flames.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall announcement This week after six reported incidents of product malfunctions.
One incident sent a person to a hospital with a smoke inhalation problem.

“The company has received six reports of lithium-ion battery overheating,” the commission wrote. “This includes three reports of solar panels catching fire while charging via AC adapter indoors and two reports of umbrellas catching fire when the solar panel disc overheated and caught fire while attached to the umbrella and one injury. by smoke inhalation.

The CPSC urged umbrella owners to stop using them immediately.
“Consumers should stop using umbrellas immediately, remove the solar panel disk containing a lithium-ion battery from the top of the umbrella, store the disk out of the sun and away from combustible materials, and do not charge the disk. with the AC adapter.”
Consumers can return umbrellas to any Costco Warehouse Location to receive a full refund. Individuals unable to return product may contact Costco for guidance on receiving a refund.

Separately, Costco is throwing a benefit that New Jerseyans have been enjoying for years.

Beginning in July, Costco will require membership cards from customers who want to fill up their gas tanks.
“As of July 5, 2022, your active Costco membership card will be required for gas purchases,” the store announced this week.
Until now, Costco Locations in New Jersey have been unique for their open lines and lack of membership requirements to fill a vehicle.
