A man asked online why so many women on dating apps include their instagram drive in your bio.
The man led Reddit‘s “Dating Tips” forum to ask if I should message these women on instagram – and why women were listing their Instagram account on their dating app profiles in the first place. (While she was specifically asking about women, it’s not just women who do this.)
“Women in Tinder, when your Insta is on your timeline, do you want guys to message directly even if we haven’t matched? asks the author. “[It] I find it a little weird to just DM a girl out of the blue because you saw her Insta on her Tinder bio before you even got matched.”
He goes on to ask why women would include their instagram handle if they just want match messages, since everyone, including non-matches, can see that information.
“If you only wanted to message guys you matched with, why put [your handle] in your bio in the first place? he asks. “My guess is that girls do it because they don’t wear it. Tinder so often, but I don’t know.
It’s the followers, say some Reddit users
Readers overwhelmingly responded that they believe people who include their social handles on dating apps are simply looking to increase their followers.
“I think most of the people who do that just want more followers on Instagram,” wrote one Reddit user.
Other readers wrote that they are hesitant to message people on Instagram because they assume they will be ignored.
“I figure they won’t appreciate my random messages so I just ignore them,” wrote one Redditor.
still others redditors wrote that they included their handles to show that they are not “fishing”.
“I’ve linked my IG before just to show pictures that I’m not cheating on anyone and my hobbies lol,” wrote one Redditor.
“I had it linked too, but it was so they would have access to a few more photos and could get a better look at me,” another Reddit user explained.
