MultiVersus had a pretty meteoric launch once it finally entered open beta late last month, and the launch may have been even better than previously thought.
According to the NPD Group, MultiVersus debuted as the best-selling video game in the United States for the month of July.
Since NPD Group creates its rankings based on dollars earned and not copies sold or downloaded, that also means that Warner Bros. the new platform fighter saw a big boost in Founder’s Pack sales, ranging from $40 USD and $100 USD.
MultiVersus was also able to top other new releases like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Digimon Survive, as well as Elden Ring and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which had been dominating the charts in previous months.
In a console breakdown, WB’s big crossover ranked #1 on Xbox and peaked at #3 on PlayStation.

All of this was accomplished in just about 12 days of the month, considering the early access beta of MVS didn’t launch until July 19.
Interestingly, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is still continuing its historic charge through sales by reaching #12 in sales in July and #4 on Nintendo platforms.
MultiVersus isn’t the first time in recent history that a new fighting game has topped the NPD charts, as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Y mortal kombat 11 they both did too.
Considering how both games performed afterward, MVS is likely to continue to be hugely successful in the coming months, but it will be fascinating to see how that plays out now that the game is freely available to everyone with no need to purchase a founder’s pack. .
Almost immediately after the title first launched in early access, it broke the record for the most played fighting game at the same time on Steam, and then broke that record again once the public beta arrived, it reached over 144,000 concurrent users on PC.
Since then, the game has reached at least 10 million downloads, and that number is probably even higher now.
MultiVersus is off to one of the strongest starts we’ve ever seen in the genre, and with the Season 1 Update Now that it’s available, WB and Player First Games will have to try to carry on that momentum.
