How We Decided On Our Overwatch 2 Tier List Ranking At Launch
Overwatch 2 has just taken its first steps (albeit with some connection related stumbles), which means that everything is still in flux and is being resolved. Expect the meta to be quite volatile during the first season as the player base adjusts to 5v5, new maps and three new heroes are added.
With that said, we’ve put together several resources to make this list. First of all, through a test and launch phase, we’ve played about 40 hours of Overwatch 2 and seen what has been working well. On top of that, we were aware of impromptu games between high-ranked players and have been keeping an eye on what has been dominating in those games. We have also spoken to some of these players about their experiences.
On top of that, even though the current patch isn’t live in the Overwatch League, we’ve also been seeing pro teams play all year long with Overwatch 2 and we can get tips with the teams that have been playing.
We’ve also considered Overwatch content creator tier lists like Floors Y your vigilance. All of this has given us a broad understanding of where the meta is at launch. With that said, expect it to move fast as people learn the game better.
Who are the best heroes in Overwatch 2?
Who exactly makes up our “best” tier in Overwatch 2 at launch? Right now, it’s clear that a certain style of play is working very well: Dive.
This is a classic Overwatch strategy that is all about speed and quick kills. In a well-executed dive, multiple highly mobile heroes will execute a coordinated jump on one or two enemies to clear baselines quickly.
Right now, several of the best heroes are diving superstars. Genji it’s thriving in a world with less crowd control skills, and it’s got immense lethality with plenty of maneuverability to boot.
Newcomer kiriko she is an excellent partner for Genji, as she can easily move between the main team and flank him with her Swift Step teleport. She can take support from multiple fronts throughout a fight and her Protection Suzu, which grants invincibility for just under a second, can be an amazing tool to save heroes who dive too deep.
Winston it’s a great tank to pair as part of the dive mindset, as it always has. He’s also thriving with less crowd control and Kiriko has a better time keeping up with him to heal him than other supports, which has always been a danger when she’s playing Winston.
Pike can be another decent addition to a scuba build, however it’s also pretty good in most builds.
Speed is king at the moment, and his speed boost helps a lot, but he’s also able to hold his own and displace the enemy team, while also getting kills in the right hands, making him very valuable in a 5v5 environment.
Like Lucius, D. VA he can also work in a dive (though he’d usually like to stick with Winston in a coordinated team), but he’s more versatile. D.VA is generally strong right now and is an excellent all-around pick if he doesn’t have a team that’s going to execute a coordinated dive.
If you want a very solid option that will plug and play in most situations, the D.VA is a great option at its current power.
The best tank heroes in Overwatch 2
Tanks have seen a big change with the release of Overwatch 2, with one being removed from the battlefield, meaning that now only one player is responsible for all tasks. So, thankfully, most have been significantly improved to handle that. And there are a lot of great options at the moment.
Right now, high mobility, and especially those that can dive into targets, are the best tank options in the game overall. In particular, Winston he is the king in that role.
Thanks to the viability of heroes like Genji, Kiriko, Lucio, and Sombra, diving competitions are pretty hot right now. Winston can jump into the enemy backline and, if his team is coordinated, expect help from a flanking damage dealer, but he can also be saved by Kiriko diving with him.
Too often in Overwatch 1, Winston would sink in and find himself disconnected from his healers, but Kiriko mitigates that a lot.
Elsewhere, D. VA it’s also very, very strong. It’s a great all-around pick that feels very workable and versatile. He can dive similarly to Winston (though not as well), but can also defend the team from him with his three seconds of Defense Matrix.
You can get defensive and aggressive from one moment to another. If you want a tank that will fit most competitions and at least provide some value, D.VA is a great choice.
Sigma It’s also a great option if you’re looking for a more traditional stationary tanking experience. He hasn’t received too many changes in the move to Overwatch 2, but his kit is still very strong, especially as a solo tank.
It can absorb a lot of damage and has the potential to be the highest damage tank. If you are not one to dive, Sigma should be your choice.
If you just want to play selfishly and try to secure kills and be an exceptionally hard-to-kill hero, pig on the way it’s a bit of a sleeper choice too.
The best damage heroes in Overwatch 2
Right now, as was said with tanks, dive heroes are strong and no one is enjoying the transition to Overwatch 2 more than Genji.
It hasn’t had any major reworks or changes, but with Blizzard’s philosophy of removing a lot of the stun and crowd control effects, there’s a lot less to get in the way of Genji, who can now go in and get a lot of executions and Dragon Blades. massive, as long as you know what you’re doing.
shade is an excellent partner for Genji, as they can both get into the enemy backline and feast on weaker health targets quite easily. However, for those who want something a bit simpler, soldier 76 it is a very versatile selection that will fit in most competitions without problems. With the loss of a second tank, there are fewer shields and abilities protecting teams, which means lines of sight are more open.
This is where some ranged damage heroes will thrive. To dwell is a great alternative if she’s more your speed, and to a slightly lesser degree, ashe It’s also an excellent choice if you can keep enough distance between yourself and the diving heroes.
The best support heroes in Overwatch 2
Currently, kiriko He is the best healer in the game. She is just excellent. She has a great mix of abilities, lots of healing, and can appear almost anywhere in an instant. Currently the game has flankers running behind teams and Kiriko hunting with them to support.
Due to his ability to teleport, he can dive down to help his teammates or dive if a situation gets too spicy. On top of that, his ultimate is very strong and he has some wild interactions with other heroes.
Elsewhere Pike is also excellent. He fits into a lot of comps and his speed boost is always helpful, especially with mobility being such a big factor in the meta. On top of that, his Sound Barrier is still an excellent ultimate to counter powerful enemies’ ultimate abilities.
Ana Y Zenyatta they’re also excellent and, in a vacuum, might as well be S-Tier. Ana’s Biotic Grenade and Zenyatta’s Discord Orbs are powerful utility tools. The only real problem with these two is that they are juicy targets for the dive heroes, who again, are very strong at the moment. However, with a little care from teammates to look after them, they are very powerful options.
In general, supports currently feel very good across the board, and anything lower is generally still very good, so if you have a strong preference for another, our advice is to go with what you know.
