■ Two ways to modify and extend RPG Creators Unionfunctionality!
Method 1．Using “Plugins”
In it RPG creator series, users have always been able to develop and use scripts known in the community as “plugins” to expand engine functionality not available by default. Because of this, many users volunteer to develop and generously share plugins with the community, which is like the RPG creator The series gave birth to so many wonderful titles, even as of now!
Similarly, in RPG Creators Union, users can use “Plugins” to improve and expand the engine. We changed the name because internal processing works differently than in the past RPG creator titles, but the concept and use are identical. However, please note that, as always, we cannot provide official support on the development or use of plugins. Until this part we touched briefly our announcement on September 2, 2022.
—RPG Maker Unite plugin manager user interface. This feature allows users to enable or disable installed plugins in the game at will.
Method 2. Rewrite the source code via Unity Editor
The second option, which we also cannot provide official support for, is to edit RPG Creators UnionThe source code directly using the Unity Editor. In RPG Creators Union, users can call the Unity Editor UI anytime they need to. Through this, users can commit and rewrite a part of the source code as they see fit (Note: with the exception of some DLL files). This is especially useful for large scale modding! Although the source code is open for viewing in the Unity Editor, please comply with the EULAs that we will post later.
—Users can open the Unity Editor from the RPG Maker Unite user interface anytime they need to.
—It is possible to have both editors side by side, making modifications while committing to each other simultaneously.
■ Which method to choose?
Both plugins and direct editing through Unity use the C# programming language. However, depending on the user’s level of knowledge or goals, there are clear reasons to prefer one over the other.
The biggest difference is whether users want to modify RPG Creators Uniondirectly or not the source code.
Plugins by nature do not modify RPG Creators Unionfrom the source code and therefore would not cause conflicts induced by changes to the source code. This is great for developing multiple plugins simultaneously, independently. Simply using other’s plugins is still as easy as ever and doesn’t require any programming or Unity Editor knowledge. Also, due to not messing with the source code, as long as there is an official update. RPG Creators Union, users can also apply it safely. (Note: Some plugins may need a few updates to be compatible with the latest updates.)
On the other hand, modifying the source code directly through the Unity Editor would give users unprecedented freedom. Naturally, this would require a fairly advanced level of programming skills and a thorough understanding of how the Unity Editor works. RPG Creators Union plays.
