December 23, 7:45 p.m.
As temperatures continue to rise, we anticipate a return to near-normal operations tomorrow, December 2. 23. Be sure to continue to check with your airlines before leaving for the airport and contact them directly in case of delays, cancellations or rescheduling.
December 23, 3:40 p.m.
Another runway (16R) is now open… that makes 2 (of 3)! Airlines are working hard to get their planes out safely. We thank all the teams helping in these difficult conditions. As always, remember to check with your airlines before heading to the airport!
December 23, 11:25 a.m.
We continue to keep the runway (16L) and adjacent taxiways clear while our snow crews de-ice and keep things safe. We’ve seen some takeoffs and landings as airline operations come and go. We will work on more tracks as the weather warms up and improves. Please be sure to check with your airline.
December 23, 9:30 a.m.
Crews continue to work to clear the airfield of ice. Thanks to our teams for keeping things safe!
December 23, 7 a.m.
Currently one runway (16L) has been opened after being defrosted. They are limited operations and will continue to be weather dependent as safety is always the top priority. Travelers should continue to monitor their flights and keep in touch with the airlines.
December 23, 5 a.m.
The slopes are currently closed indefinitely due to freezing rain and temperatures. Crews are working to defrost surfaces as quickly and safely as possible. Safety is the top priority before tracks can reopen. Be sure to check with your airlines for further updates on your specific flight.
December 22, 5 p.m.
We are attentive to the forecast. We are prepared for the winter weather ahead. SEA taxiways and runways have been treated with de-icers in anticipation of cold weather and possible freezing rain. Check with your airline for specific flight information.
December 22, 3:45 p.m.
We are ready for you, are you ready for takeoff? Here are some suggestions from SEA to speed up your vacation trip:
- Arrives early! Allow extra time if you are parking in the airport lot or checking bags
- Download or update the flySEA app You have live security checkpoint wait times!
- Wear sea point saving to reserve your place in the TSA line
- Simplify your Safety experience: don’t pre-wrap your gifts (we have free wrapping available in the Central Terminal)
- If possible, limit yours checked bags

December 22, 2022, 9:30 a.m.
TSA security checkpoints currently experience long wait times. Arrive at the airport early and check the flySEA app to find out the latest waiting times at checkpoints. The staff will direct you to the fastest line. If you are part of a trusted traveler program, please use your dedicated lane and checkpoint for screening. Lines can stretch to the parking lot if necessary, so be prepared for cold temperatures while you wait.
December 21, 2022, 11:30 a.m.
Brrrr, it’s cold out there! Temperatures in the SEA are expected to drop further, according to the National Metereological Service. The airfield surfaces are currently bare and wet. We continue to monitor the weather and treat surfaces for ice.

December 20, 2022, 3:30 p.m.
The ground is currently wet and bare at SEA, but we continue to monitor the forecast. Reminder: Airlines manage their own flight schedules and aircraft de-icing operations (if necessary), so please check with them for any changes or cancellations to your specific flight.
December 20, 2022, 7:30 a.m.
There is no snow on the ground, but it is expected later in the day. De-icing operations are currently in effect. Please check with your airline for any schedule changes or cancellations, as the airlines previously canceled a number of flights for today.
December 19, 2022, 4:00 p.m.
The SEA airport is open and operating with no impact on operations. The 8th floor of the garage has been treated and is open for your use!
