BMW’s concept car doubles as your friend

Technology can be so impersonal. BMW i Vision Dee I hope to fix that. Using sophisticated AI, this prototype car throws off the servant trick of Siri and Alexa. Instead, it expects to be your car and your friend. The i Vision Dee is an EV sports car with an exterior made up of 240 E Ink panels. You can use those panels to program a digital face into the car’s grill, since it’s an EV, the ventilation that a grill normally provides isn’t necessary, or change the car’s colors with the click of a button.
The BMW i Vision Dee is just a concept for now, but some of its features will be extended to actual BMW cars. BMW CEO Oliver Zipse said, for example, that the AI-powered HUB technology the company put into the i Vision Dee will come to real cars in 2025. — Daniel Van Boom

Sony’s first car will arrive in 2026

James Martin/CNET
Electric vehicles are big business, and Sony wants in on it. The electronics giant is partnering with Honda on a new electric vehicle brand named Afeela. The Afeela logo appears on a narrow screen, or “media bar”, on the front bumper of the vehicle. This can also interact with people outside the vehicle and share information such as the weather or the state of charge of the car.
Unlike the car that Sony showed off at CES 2020 all those years ago, this one is actually coming to market. No word on pricing yet, but Sony said its Afeela car will hit North American roads in 2026. Japan and Europe will follow. –Daniel Van Boom
A Transformers-inspired bike that fits under a desk

Icoma
Is this electric bike more than meets the eye? A CES 2023, that is exactly what the Japanese company Icoma showed with the Tatamel. It’s also more than a last-mile bike. Its electric battery pack can be used to charge devices, which can come in handy in an emergency.
